Public Survey asking New Yorkers do they want to keep public housing public?
Committee for Independent Community Action and CfDC are asking New Yorkers - residents of public housing and non-residents - do they know about privatization of public hosing and where do they stand.
RESULTS
1- NYCHA residents have been plagued with lead paint, mold, lack of heat and hot water. Do you live in public housing?
46% - no; 54%- yes
2 - Have you heard about the land where the City and NYCHA will lease and sell its public housing land and buildings to real-estate developers?
31% - no; 69% - yes
3- NYCHA and the Mayor plan to give management control of public housing to real-estate developers. This means that the developers would collect rents, subsidies and be in charge of evictions. Do you think this is a good idea?
89% - no; 7% - yes; 4% - not sure
4- Do you believe that New York City should safeguard public housing and that public housing should remain public and affordable for poor and low-income New Yorkers?
